Description
Technicians will monitor fish health, operate trucks to transport salmon on basic and rudimentary gravel roads, operate pumps to full fish transport tanks, and record fish health data. The purpose of the work is to collect and transport salmon past the landside area in the event of hydraulic conditions that may block natural passages.
Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor fish health during transport operations
- Recording all fish health data while transporting fish
- Monitor all movement of fish out of the release site recovery pool
- Filling trucks with fresh water and operating pumps and hoses
- Adjust SONAR units daily to ensure an ideal image for enumeration of salmon is achieved
- Collecting and completing all sampling techniques
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Must have or be willing to participate in Swift water training.
- Experience conducting fisheries sampling techniques
- Physically fit and able to handle large fish (up to ~80lbs)
- Comfortable wading in rivers and maneuvering through rugged terrain
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or equivalent (required) is an asset.
- Be able to safely operate vehicles on remote resource roads with steep angles and exposure
- Vehicle and valid insurance and acquire business insurance is asset
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions. The work environment will be in the middle of the Fraser Canyon during peak summer heat periods.
- Shifts will be 12 hours a day, 4 days on 4 days off and candidates must be willing to work weekends.
